Home!

We started this challenge saying we were to spend $1500 and wanted to ride 1500 miles. Today as we rolled up to the house, and making no special side trips or changing our route, we ended at 1503 miles!

While our bodies are tired and a little sore our spirits are high as we had a great trip. I can’t say enough about the people we met and how this has just helped fuel my desire to travel more and find new challenges.

Many thanks to everyone that supported us or followed along and to all the people who provided or offered to provide help along the route. We had at least three people who said the would show up with a truck and trailer no matter where we were if we broke down. It is good people like these that remind you life is good.

The little Ninja never missed a beat the entire way home and rolled over 10k miles. The Honda seems to have some electrical issue that is causing battery drain so we will have to track that down and of course put on two new throttle cables. Other than that the 34 year old bike ran great and the motor is so smooth. We were very impressed with both bikes.

As for gear, having the ability to communicate with one another is very helpful and adds to safety as we can call out road conditions, dangerous cars, or upcoming turns and stops. The SHOEI modular helmets worked great and make drinking from the camelback while traveling very easy. The mesh jackets we wore worked great in the heat and if you wet your T-shirt offered a short cooling effect as the breeze blew over them.

We were amazed as we rode through state after state and watched motorcyclists with no safety gear, riding only in shorts and T-shirt’s. Meanwhile Craig and I had full face helmets, riding boots, gloves and armored jackets and pants. I just don’t understand riding without the proper gear. We survived the heat of Dallas fully covered up so I know it can be done I wish more people would, but to each their own.

It was an amazing trip and I had a blast and can’t thank Craig enough for being crazy enough to go with me and for his tenacity and mechanical skills that got us through our breakdown.
