Test ride today

DSCN9911.JPGHad to make a trip to the west side of the state today so figured it would be a good time to test out what gear I plan on wearing on the trip back and to see if I could figure out how to use the GoPro I borrowed from my stepson.

First thing to report is that the new Klim pants and jacket work great with the mesh on the jacket and large vents on the pants letting air flow pretty freely. I’m under no false impressions that today’s 71 and humid will be anything like the high 90’s we will see in Dallas, but hey every little bit helps.

Second, I’m not as dumb as I thought and I actually got he GoPro to work, though I’m not sure I totally understand yet the best way to capture time lapse video.  I was able to capture video, but it plays so fast you don’t get to see much. Sadly today was so foggy that most of the video was garbage as the lens ended up getting so wet you couldn’t see anything.    I was going to post the video here, but apparently that’s not an option.   I’ll try to hang the video on Facebook.

So far I’ve got the GPS stripped off the KTM, updated the maps on it, and it’s ready to go.  The tool roll is packed and should have most of the tools we should need (hopefully the tool roll is never opened!) and the flat tire kit is prepped.  I’m planning on packing all my stuff in a Wolfman Expedition duffel bag and hopefully will be able to strap that to whatever bike I end up with.  Craig seems to have an obsession right now with Honda 250 Rebels, so that may be our chariot of choice!

Probably most nervous about seat comfort and being able to ride whatever it is for five days straight without my ass hurting too bad.  Oh did I mention that part of our challenge is that we cannot use the freeway, so it will be all backroads, which will slow our pace, but hopefully allow us to see more of the country and keep the rpms down.

I’ve planned out a few different routes so far, not sure which we will end up on, but the goal is to ride on some fun roads, go through every state  or national forest we can, and just enjoy what America has to offer.

Tomorrow I will install the intercom system on my helmet so that Craig and I can communicate while we are riding, and even listen to some music off our phones.

Just over 48 hours until we board a plane for Dallas.  I’m ready to roll!

by the way the photo above is Craig from our last trip and I’m just hoping he dresses better this time!  🙂
